Risa Fukui was born in Shizuoka in 1975. She graduated from the Graphic Design Department of Tama Art University in 1999, and has received the JACA Japan Visual Art Exhibition Award. She is known for her refined and well-balanced silhouetted paper cutouts, and collaborates actively with artists from different fields including music, advertising, film, and fashion. Her short animated film "Tarachine" was released in 2007.
Fukui is an artist of silhouettes who creates graphics filled with densely hatched lines that give the images the feeling of vitality. At this second solo exhibition, Fukui is exhibiting works included in her first art book published last November. This is also the premiere of "Tarachine." Visitors are able to view the original silhouettes used in the film.
